stance & pushing
In this Enuff academy we are going to start at the very beginning and teach you the basics of riding - how to stand and how to push on a skateboard.
We'd like to say a big thank you to ATBShop Skate Warehouse for letting us film in their park and Geoff from Rubicon for his time and expertise.
how to work out your skating stance
definitions
Left foot forward = regular stance
Right foot forward = goofy stance
the best way to work out your stance on a skateboard
the push test
The push test helps to find out your strong foot, this will be the foot that goes at the front of the skateboard. To do this, stand up straight, imagine that someone has pushed you forwards; whichever foot you put out to stop yourself is most likely your strong foot and that's going to be going at the front of the skateboard.
Your back foot sits on the tail of the skateboard.
how to push on a skateboard
Pushing with your back foot = regular pushing
Start with your strong foot on the front bolts pointing forwards. Push with your rear foot ensuring you keep your weight forwards.
When you are ready to coast place your pushing foot on the tail, not the middle of the board; by stepping straight onto the tail you are set-up for tricks.
Pushing with your front foot = mongo pushing
Try and avoid mongo pushing as it is a little less effective and takes more steps to set-up tricks.
